WSOP Event #29: Short Deck No-Limit Hold’em

Event #29 of the 2021 WSOP is the $10,000 Short Deck No-Limit Hold’em tournament. This three-day event began on October 14 with 60,000 starting stacks, and 60-minute blind levels throughout. The tournament was played six-handed with the exception of an unofficial seven-handed final table.

Colorado’s Chance Kornuth is now the WSOP’s newest three-time bracelet winner after the event. Kornuth, from Denver, took home $194,670 for his win in this elite event, which created one of the WSOP’s smallest fields so far, at just 66 entries.

Kornuth’s win swelled his career tournament earnings to over $8.7 million. The player has won more than $2.2 million of that at the WSOP. That includes his two earlier bracelet wins. Kornuth received his first bracelet and more than $508,000 in a PLO event in 2010. He won a second bracelet in 2018, during an online NLH high-roller event.

The $10,000 Short Deck event drew 114 entries in 2019 to generate a prize pool of $1,071,600. Alex Epstein came out on top to win his first WSOP gold bracelet and the tournament’s first-place prize of $296,227. Short deck poker has been growing in popularity and this event could draw even more players in 2021.
