WSOP Event #46: No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack

Event #46 of the 2021 WSOP is $800 No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack, a popular big-field event that joins the Double Stack NLH tourney (Event #43) in making this one of the WSOP’s busiest weekends. Despite its modest $800 entry, this event allowed only one re-entry per player. The two-day Deepstack event began at 11 am on Sunday, October 24.

The $800 No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack drew a field of 2,053 entries by the conclusion of late registration. Only one of those more than 2,000 entrants was Chad Norton. This was Norton’s first time in a live WSOP tournament. Even though he had never before played in the World Series of Poker, he still won the event.

“To be honest I’ve only played in one WPT event,” Norton explained shortly after he scored his big cash and bracelet win. “And this was my first ever live WSOP tournament. I play mostly online but I came in on such a downswing, so to be able to come in and win my first ever WSOP tournament feels amazing.”

The 2019 edition of the $800 NLH Deepstack was claimed by Spain’s Santiago Soriano. Soriano, who’d never before logged a six-figure poker score, topped a giant 3,759-entry field to earn $371,203 in the largest win of his career.
