WSOP Event #59: TAG TEAM No-Limit Hold’em

Event #59 of the 2021 WSOP is $1,000 TAG TEAM No-Limit Hold’em. This event began at 2 pm on Sunday, October 31 and ran for three days. The event called for two players per team (a change from previous years), and both players had to play at least one round of blinds, or the team would be disqualified.

The big story of the $1,000 Tag Team was the father-daughter pair that stayed alive all the way to third. Amanda and David Botfeld wound up as the fan favorites after the younger Botfeld tweeted a photo of herself as her father taught her poker 15 years ago.

“This is my dad teaching me how to play poker with lime green chips,” Botfeld wrote. “15 years later, we have made the final table together in the @wsop Tag Team Tournament. Love you dad, and couldn’t have done it without you.”

Team Botfeld ended up in third place, which left Mike Ruter and Samy Dighlawi to take joint custody of the Tag Team bracelet, along with $56,683.

In 2019, Israel’s “Team Geiger” — Barak Wisbrod, Ohad Geiger, and Daniel Dayan — outlasted 975 other teams to take the bracelet in this event. The three also shared a $168,395 payday, collecting $56,132 each for the win.
