Event #71 of the 2021 WSOP is the $1,500 BOUNTY Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed. This tourney began on November 11. When the dust had settled only one player was left standing — Parisian optometrist Mourad Amokrane.
In this event, $500 from each player’s buy-in was attached as a bounty on their head. When any player knocks out another, the winner takes that bounty and can redeem it for cash as soon as they exit the tournament. A lucky player doesn’t even need to cross into the money bubble in order to make some money.
Amokrane fought his way through a field of 860 players. With 860 entries, he was fighting for a prize pool of $774,000 after rake. The event sported another $430,000 in bounties.
After his win, Amokrane told reporters, “I have no words. I look at all the poker shows on TV. I know all the famous players. Getting a WSOP bracelet is something unbelievable for me. I don’t realize it. It’s just a beautiful feeling. My wife is calling from France right now. She was not sleeping all night to follow the updates.”
She can rest easier now, with an extra $132,844 in the family bank account.
Player Matt Mamiya came away with $82,100 for his second-place finish.
