The World Series of Poker has released details for the 2022 Player of the Year contest offered to its Pennsylvania-based WSOP.com players. The Pennsylvania-only race, which began on January 1 and runs through December 31, 2022, offers a $10,000 cash prize and other awards.

According to information released by WSOP.com to its Pennsylvania players, the 2022 WSOP.com PA Player of the Year (POY) is awarded by total points accumulations in all open tournaments held on the site throughout 2022. "Open" events are defined as multi-table tournaments (MTTs) that award cash prizes. All results are then calculated into the WSOP.com Player of the Year standings throughout the year.

In addition to the $10,000 prize, the winner will also receive a special 2022 Pennsylvania WSOP.com "Player of the Year" ring (valued at $1,000), plus $1,500 in online tournament tickets -- two separate tickets, valued at $500 and $1,000, respectively. The contest is open to all "real-money approved" players who are physically present in Pennsylvania. Access to the WSOP's Pennsylvania WSOP.com client is offered through the Harrah's Philadelphia online site, the WSOP's official land-based casino partner in the state.

Bonus multipliers for special WSOP.com events

One wrinkle added to the 2022 Pennsylvania WSOP.com Player of the Year chase is that certain special events may award points calculated as multiples. According to WSOP.com, "Some tournaments, including but not limited to our Series of Online Championships tournaments (the Winter Poker Classic, the Spring Poker Series, the Online Championships, and the Fall Poker Classic), and our signature Sunday tournaments may be calculated with a points multiplier. This multiplier will be defined in the marketing collateral for these and other events, and may be applied retroactively."

The first of those special series for Pennsylvania WSOP.com players is already underway. The PA WSOP Online Circuit Series began on January 5 and runs through January 16, 2022, including its upcoming main event. The series awards 12 event winners' rings and collectively offers over $500,000 in guaranteed prize money, in addition to being eligible for the PA-only POY race.

While most multi-table tourneys on the Pennsylvania WSOP.com site are POY points-eligible, there are some exceptions. Certain "closed" events, such as ladies-only, seniors-only, or by-invitation events, are not POY-eligible. Nor are events held on the site that award non-cash prizes, such as (according to WSOP.com) "hotel rooms, show tickets, or clothing." Freerolls and satellites are also ineligible, and of course, the POY race is MTT-only; no single-table sit-n-gos or any cash-game play is considered toward the POY honor.

Further contest details can be found on the Pennsylvania WSOP.com site, including an explanation of how the 2022 PA WSOP.com POY points are calculated.
