WSOP Event #32: H.O.R.S.E.

Event #32 of the 2021 WSOP is the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. tournament. This is one of four H.O.R.S.E. events on the schedule in 2021, and it started with 40,000 chips on October 16. Levels were 60 minutes long for all three days this tournament was scheduled to run.

In the end, this event delivered a star-studded final table packed with big names. The field of 282 players was chock full of well-known poker pros from far and wide..

In the WSOP HORSE events, play rotates every six hands among five games: Limit Texas hold ’em, limit Omaha, razz, seven-card stud, and stud hi-lo eights or better. To win, a player must excel at four of the games (and be lucky at razz).

With 282 entries, the prize pool hit $752,940, with $172,823 for the first-place finisher. At the end, only Jim Collopy and Ahmed Mohamed were still standing. Collopy was trying for his second bracelet. His first came in 2013’s WSOP Asia-Pacific AU$1,650 PLO event.

Collopy started heads-up play with a strong lead of 8.8 million chips to 2.5 million. He swiftly cut Mohamed’s stack down to 650,000. During a razz round, Mohamed called a bet each street, turning over a 8-7-low, but he was edged out by Collopy’s 8-6-low. Mohamed won $107,428 for a second place finish.

The $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. event in 2019 had 301 entries to build a total prize pool of $812,700. Denis Strebkov came out on top of a stacked final table to win the tournament’s top prize of $206,173 and his first WSOP gold bracelet. The final table had five WSOP bracelet winners on it including Brian Hastings and Paul Volpe.
