WSOP Event #45: Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed Championship

Event #45 of the 2021 WSOP is the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed Championship. This event is the premier PLO offering at the WSOP and annually draws an elite field of the world’s best pot-limit Omaha players. The PLO championship had the afternoon (3 pm) starting spot on Saturday, October 23 and ran for four days.

The 2021 $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event went to Tommy Le. The player won almost $750,000 for his jaw-dropping victory, and finished up with a WSOP bracelet.

To score the gold, Le had to best three former bracelet winners at the final table: Eli Elezra (4 bracelets), Anderson Ireland (1 bracelet), and Jeremy Ausmus (2 bracelets).

That was only the final table. Players making it to one of the 52 paid positions were Jim Collopy, Brandon Shack-Harris, Stephen Chidwick, David Benyamine, J. C. Tran, Brandon Zack, and Mike Matusow.

Le did not play down the difficulty of his win. But to be honest, holding a PLO event with Europe in lockdown is akin to putting on the Winter Olympics without inviting the Norwegians.

“I feel like I just won a bracelet,” Le said when asked the usual post-victory question. “It’s the best feeling in the world. It’s amazing. I love the WSOP. I come every year. I think it’s an awesome event. I really play because I love the game.”

Former Michigan State wrestler Dash Dudley authored a Cinderella story when he took down the 2019 version of this event. The long-time PLO grinder earned his first bracelet — he’d win a second one that fall at 2019 WSOP Europe — and nearly $1.1 million with the triumph.
