WSOP Event #58: SUPER SENIORS No-Limit Hold’em

Event #58 of the 2021 WSOP is $1,000 SUPER SENIORS No-Limit Hold’em. Play began at 10 am on Sunday, October 31. Players had to be aged 60 or higher to participate in this closed-field event. The Super Seniors event was scheduled just a few days after the Seniors tourney (age 50 and up) and thus allowed older WSOP players to double-dip in seniors-only bracelet events.

The Godfather of poker, Doyle Brunson, returned briefly for the $1,000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold’em event. Brunson announced ahead of this year’s World Series of Poker that he would play “a few select events.” As it happened, the first of those events turned out to be the 2021 WSOP Super Seniors event.

Doyle didn’t experience the best start to his series play. He lasted just shy of an hour after Mori Eskandani — PokerGO’s top leader — showed Doyle to his seat. In his first hand, Doyle ran smack into pocket kings. Things didn’t get much better for him after that.

Doyle’s short run left room for plenty of players who could later boast that they outlasted a legend that day. Among that lucky pack was Jean-Luc Adam, who eventually took first place.

Adam scored $255,623 and a 2021 WSOP gold bracelet. He had to beat out a field of 1,892 over-60 players who ponied up $1,000 a pop to enter the event. The total prize pool came to $1,685,660.

Colorado’s Michael Blake topped a 2,650-entry field in 2019 to win the Super Seniors title. It was Blake’s first bracelet win and only his third-ever WSOP cash, worth $359,863.
