Event #74 of the 2021 WSOP is the $2,500 Mixed Big Bet Event. The big bet mix involves rotating rounds of pot-limit Omaha, no-limit deuce-to-seven lowball single draw, no limit 5-Card Draw, pot-limit Big-O (aka 5-card Omaha), pot-limit Omaha hi-lo, and pot-limit deuce-to-seven lowball triple draw. The game changes every six hands.
The smorgasbord of games attracted 212 players, building a prize pool of $471,700. At the end of three days of play, Denis Strebkov of Russia had battled through the field, coming away with the gold bracelet and the first-place cash prize of $117,898.
In the winner’s photo, it’s hard to tell if the “V-signs” Strebkov and his friend held up are meant to represent V-for-victory, or the fact that this is Strebkov’s second WSOP title. (The player won the WSOP $3k H.O.R.S.E. event in 2019.) It does seem clear, however, that neither player has spent a significant amount of time in London. In that city, making that gesture to a police officer will most likely get you arrested.
This tournament combines the strategic variations of mixed game tourneys with the high pressure decision making of an all pot-limit and no-limit line up. This tourney is scheduled to begin on November 14 and is expected to run for up to three days.
