Phil Ivey... Has he regained the post of #1 in the world?

I personally believe that Ivey has been playing phenomanally as of late and that even though he hasnt been able to record a win that the run of final tables is incredible and worth noting.

Is he really number 1 now? I know its close but I thought Eric Seidel is still a little bit ahead. Pretty sure Ivey is 2nd place.

IMO he can turn it on whenever he wants too. I think he believes he is the best by a long chalk - mjaybe thats all that counts!

I agree with your last statement Nobby. Confidence can help your game big time. If you go into a tourney saying to yourself "I am going to do well" then chances are you will. If you go into the game thinking you are beat, chances are you probably will get beat.
Ivey is one of my favorite players. No one can deny that he has been kicking some serious butt this year at the WSOP, it would be really nice to see him nab a bracelet this year!

Considering the way he has been playing, this is a valid argument. I would through names like Phil Hellmuth up there too since he is having a good WSOP this year.

Yes, Ivey is currently sitting in #1 in the WSOP Player of the Year rankings.
I really enjoy watching him play.

You won't see Ferguson or Howard Lederer for awhile imo (read up about FTP).

I would like to express my feelings on this ftp deal. I think phil Ivey got screwed more than anybody. they used him to sign most of the players they had.Ya, he got paid well, but without him on their site, they are just an ordinary poker site. Phil just played poker because its in his blood. He has a drive for this game more than anyone in the world. That's why he is, by far, the best player in the world! I'm sure in phil's mind he is responsable for some of this, but the only thing he did wrong is sell a piece of himself to thiefs.

Yes, Lederer and Ferguson would best be laying low for a long time.

I think all the top tournament players are in the same level and the luck is what that differ between them.
elkie, selbst, mercier, ivey they are all good and solid
ivey is maybe better than them in cash games

Phil plays a wide range of hands and is not bashful about pushing his chips around.ever since his bluff vs bluff huge pot takedown i think hes earned alot of respect at the tables.i think he has a real feel for the competition and plays on their stenghts and weaknesses.definately a dangerous and intimidating player.as far as being the best in the world i highly doubt it(:

Hellmuth has really stepped up his game from not just a nl hold em torunament player but now winning the razz event.. final tabling the 10k horse, came in 2nd 3 times in 2011 in different games $50k 8game, $10k 7card stud hi/lo, $10k 2-7lowball.. now finishing 4th in the $1million dollar buy in tournament .. i mean his tournament success is off the wall hes easily the best tournament player, but cash game player goes to ivey.

Phil Ivey is by far the best player this game has ever seen when it come to no limit holdem. Could argue that Stu Ungar was the best and i might agree if it were not for his untimely death.

Now I have to say Phil Hellmuth is #1. Not only did he win his 12th bracelet this year but he also made a couple final tables including the one drop which he made 2.5 million. I would have liked to see Ivey play in that one.

People have asked this question about the 2 Phils for a while, they say Unger could study most card games and be really good at them in the quickest time...but as most old poker pros say,"You must stay the test if time" but with the addiction qualities that Unger faced,he was dead before he could prove himself...cocaine=death...I was there and was 1 of the lucky ones to find a girl and drop this life altering drug!!
