We just had a nightmare situation at WSOP Circuit Event in Baltimore – two players, one of them ultimate winner Maurice Hawkins, tabled their hands at showdown. Hawkins had a wheel, but his opponent, Divyam Satyarthi, had a one-card flush. Somehow nobody noticed the flush, the pot was pushed to Hawkins, and Satyarthi was incorrectly eliminated.
Suppose you're a member of the media watching this hand and see the mistake. Do you say something? Let's make it more interesting – suppose you're a passing cocktail server (who speaks poker), or a random railbird, and see the error. Do you say anything?
Matt Berkey's Only Friends podcast took this on, and ultimately Matt, Landon Tice, and Miguel ("Guapo") Gonzales all agreed that anybody – media, cocktail server, or railbird – who sees a pot being pushed wrong when cards are tabled should say something – watch at 1:19:30 for Berkey's summary.
What do you think? Every man and woman for themselves, and if you overlook your winning hand, even when it's tabled, tough? Or is it better for the game if anybody – including media people – speaks up when they see an error taking place?
