A packed Las Vegas summer poker schedule will now need to make room for one more with the announcement of a $4M World Poker Tour Championship event at Venetian Las Vegas from July 11-17.
The $5,000 WPT Venetian Las Vegas Championship, which pits itself head-to-head against the later stages of the WSOP Main Event, will take advantage of the big summer crowds and a revamped Venetian Poker Room. The WPT will also make use of the Venetian's brand-new streaming room, which will host the final table of the event on July 17.
WPT returns to revamped Venetian
"The Venetian has been home to some incredible WPT moments over the years," said WPT CEO Adam Pliska. "We are honored to bring the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup back to such a revered venue."
Venetian Las Vegas last hosted a tournament for the Mike Sexton Cup in 2022, when Robert Mizrachi won almost $900,000 for beating a field of 1,178 entries. WPT's Vegas focus then shifted to the winter WPT Championship at Wynn, but they're now making a play for a piece of the big summer crowd — a sign of the increased competition to lure players away from the WSOP as Horseshoe and Paris try to keep them there.
"The Venetian Poker Room has been completely transformed since the last time WPT was with us in 2022," Said Tommy LaRosa, Director of Poker Operations at Venetian. "Our new room, the largest on the Las Vegas Strip, provides players with an elevated experience and adding the WPT Championship event to the DeepStack Poker Series further expands the offering for players this summer."
WPT event will close out a big summer of streaming in the new room, which has regularly featured its DeepStack final tables and cash games on the Venetian Poker Live YouTube channel. It has 50 tables and 14,000 square feet, along with one of the best self-service beverage stations in town.
