Sam Weiss holds to move into the chip lead

Sam Weiss is the new sheriff in town Sam Weiss is the new sheriff in town

There's a new sheriff in town and his name is Sam Weiss. Derek Kwan already recounted to us a hand earlier where his neighbor Weiss was all in preflop with against James Andersons . In that hand, the board ran out and Weiss made a straight to take down that pot.

In his most recent hand, after a raise to 1,200 from Victor Vo and a three-bet to 3,600 from Shayan Eshraghi, Sam Weiss made it 12,000 from late position. Action folded back to Vo in early position and he moved all in. Eshraghi folded but Weiss quickly called the difference to put Vo at risk.

You can see how the board ran out here:

After the hand, Weis collected the pot and moved to right around 185,000 in chips, making him one of the biggest stacks in the room, if not the biggest.

Marc Florentino can't catch up

The board completed with the and the and Florentino was left with crumbs after the hand. Shortly after, he was seen heading to the registration window to re-enter.

Florentino is another LA reg who is well known with some big six figure scores across the LA poker scene, according to the Hendon Mob. In total, Florentino has nearly $600,000 in live tournament earnings.

Michael Nia returns with the lead after the first break

After the first three levels of play, a battle looks to be brewing between Michael Nia and Nathan Rosinger who both sit at the same table. Both Nia and Rosinger currently sit with two of the largest stacks in the room, both of them over 100,000. Also joining their table is Jared Griener, so we're sure to see some sparks fly betwen them as the day goes on.

Also topping the top five in stacks is Jarod Einsohn who is one of the only other players in the field over 100,000 at this point. Other notables joining us for Day 1b include Phil Laak, Bill Klien, Billy Baxter, Matt Salsberg, and Alex Farahi to name a few.

Players return from break in level four with blinds of 300/500 with a big blind ante of 500 chips. Currently 93 entries have been registerd.

Small misstep for Andrew Ostapchenko

Andrew Ostapchenko Andrew Ostapchenko

Picking up the action on a board showing with right around 10,000 in the middle already. Andrew Ostapchenko was first to act against Hugo Alfredo.

Ostapchenko fired out a bet of 5,600 and found a raise from Alfredo to 16,000. Ostapchenko dropped into the tank and eventually decided to call the raise.

Alfredo turned up his for a set and Ostapchenko sent the chips over his way with a muck.

Despite the early loss, Ostapchenko is still having a good week here at the Commerce as he captured his second WSOP Circuit ring on Wednesday in Event #7: $1,100 No-Limit Hold'em for $28,857. Ostapchenko is definitely one of the most accomplished players in the field with over $6M in live tournament earnings according to The Hendon Mob as well as a WSOP Bracelet and now two WSOP Circuit rings.
