The Cash Game World Championships (CGWC) returned to CoinPoker this week – but with a slight twist. In past iterations, the CGWC centered on ring games. This time around, it's all about the heads-up streets.

Until May 3, a cohort of the best online cash game players – including Linus 'LLinusLLove' Loeliger, Dan 'Jungleman' Cates, Henri 'Buttonclickr' Puustinen, and Owen 'Prodigy' Messere – will battle it out in no-limit hold'em and pot-limit Omaha at stakes of $50/$100. With $100,000 in added prizes, a Rolex, and the Heads Up CGWC title up for grabs, the action is all but guaranteed to impress.

The Heads Up CGWC comes in three stages: the Group Stage (April 6-19), the Semi-Finals (April 20-26), and the Grand Final (April 27-May 3).

The Heads Up CGWC format

The Group Stage utilizes a point system to determine winners.

  • Match Win: 50 points awarded
  • EV BB Score: Players can win or lose between 0 and 150 points in each match, 10 EV BB equals 1 point (rounded to the nearest whole number)

Players can win a maximum of 200 points per match.

In the pot-limit Omaha event, players are divided into groups of four and will play 1,250 hands against each opponent in their group. The two highest-scoring players from each group advance to the Semi-Finals.

In the no-limit hold'em event, players are divided into groups of three and will play 1,875 hands against each opponent in their group. Only the highest-scoring player from each group will advance to the Semi-Finals.

The highest-scoring player in each of the Group Stage events earns the right to select their Semi-Finals opponent, with each match lasting 2,000 hands.

The Grand Final will feature 2,000 hands played – with prizes and glory on the line for both players.

Already, the Heads Up CGWC is off to a hot start – check out the video above to see Puustinen take on Messere in the no-limit hold'em bracket.
