How many online multi-table tournaments (MTTs) do you normally play a day?
If you answered in single — or even double digits — then move aside. Aaron Barone is setting his sights a little higher.
An 888 ambassador since 2023, Barone has vowed to play 150 tourneys in 24 hours, live on his stream which starts at 6:25am PT on Wednesday, April 15, and be in profit at the end of it.
The entire challenge will be streamed live, and you can follow along at Barone’s Twitch channel.
‘More poker than I've ever played before’
The stipulations of the bet are as follows:
- The 24 hours starts from the first hand he’s dealt
- Average buy-in will be $30+
- Each MTT will be a unique, individual tournament (rebuys and re-entries won’t count as multiple tourneys)
- He must finish in profit to win the bet
For every final table he makes, a follower in the chat will win a one-month sub to training site Upswing Poker.
Can he do it? Barone has taken action at 1:1 odds, but as he explains in a recent post — below — this is less about the money and more about recapturing the spirit of his early days playing poker, reading forums and watching others take on “obscene challenges, pushing themselves to their physical and mental limits.”
“I grew up in the 2+2 era of online poker, where prop bets were a thing,” says Barone. “I was inspired. I set a few of my own challenges, with varying degrees of success, and then at some point I looked up and the culture had faded away.
“Surprisingly, a lot of people simply aren't aware of this time period. My theory is, and this isn't a criticism, but because they're too young or too old as both groups simply weren't familiar with the internet back then.
“As an influencer, part of me thought I could use my platform to recapture some of that nostalgia and show people what helped me fall in love with the game of poker… Tomorrow, I get the opportunity to do all of that on a scale that I've never done before. I get to play more poker than I've ever played before. And that means more big hands, more crazy bluffs, and ultimately, more fun.”
