The 2023 WSOP is here!
It is finally the day for which poker fans around the world wait with bated breath all year long… Day 1 of the World Series of Poker at the Paris and Horseshow on the Vegas Strip.
The first event of the series, as is the case every year, is the Casino Employee’s tournament. This event is always a fun time as dealers from around the country, all forms of poker media and more converge to take their own shot at glory on the felt themselves.
While the mood of the casino employee’s event is often bubbly and good-spirited, do not mistake that to mean that these players don’t want to win. For many, it is their only chance of the summer to play a big tournament and their only chance to dream of their own big score and bracelet.
Last year’s 2022 WSOP Casino Employee’s event had a memorable champion with dealer Katie Kopp from Cleveland OH emerging as the bracelet winner. She won $65,168 after she defeated the 832 entry field.
$25K buy-in High Roller to headline the day
The only other event to get started today is a much different type of affair -- the $25,000 High Roller 6-Handed event.
This is actually a brand new event to the WSOP calendar and has been highly anticipated with several of the biggest names in the game expected to enter. The mood will be serious from the start, as the high rollers will all want to start their WSOP off the right way.
We also can't fail to mention the $25K will be the first real chance for the 25K Fantasy League crowd to begin collecting some coveted points, as this field is bound to be littered with names who were drafted last night (as our Terrance Reid covered for PokerOrg last night).
Stay tuned to PokerOrg for the rest of the summer as we bring you live Instant coverage from every day of the WSOP.
