It's been more than a decade since its last iteration, but the National Heads-Up Poker Championship returned to the fold in 2025 for its ninth tournament. Following an initial premier on Peacock in December of last year, PokerGO has now released the complete Season 9 ten-episode slate on its streaming platform and mobile app.
The 2025 revival of the show features a 64-player bracket dotted with notable names from the poker world alongside celebrities, professional athletes, and businesspeople – each of whom ponied up the $25,000 buy-in with the hopes of taking down the $500,000 first-place prize. In order to do so, however, the eventual winner had to navigate their way through a field rife with heads-up specialists like Doug Polk and Phil Galfond, tournament crushers like Stephen Chidwick and Jason Koon, and cash game legends like Alan Keating and Andrew Robl.
And then there's the X factor players, those competitors whose approach to the game might run contrary to the norm and could play the spoiler role for one of the favorites. Randy '3Coin' Sadler, the enigmatic, gamble-heavy Texan businessman or Bryce Hall, the TikTok superstar influencer and regular on the Celebrity Poker Tour, for example.
When it comes to heads-up poker, there's no guarantees and any player can beat another if the cards fall their way – and that setup makes for great viewing.
Round 1 matchup highlights
With a single-elimination format, the heads-up tournament split competitors into four quadrants within the bracket: Spades, Diamonds, Hearts, and Clubs.
In Episode 1, the players placed in the Diamond quadrant square off in their Round 1 matches (Episode 2 features Round 1 matches in the Clubs quadrant, followed by Episode 3 with the Hearts matches, and Episode 4 with the Spades matches).
The Round 1 episodes feature a number of notable matches, including 2011 National Heads-Up Poker Championship winner Erik Seidel against Robl, psychologist and best-selling author Maria Konnikova against Survivor legend Rob 'Boston Rob' Mariano, a South American slugfest between Argentina's Ignacio 'Nacho' Barbero and Brazil's Luis 'Brazil God' Rizental, and a battle of the old school versus the new school with reigning champion Mike Matusow taking on one of the GTO wizards in Chidwick.
If any of those matches pique your interest, head on over to PokerGO to check out the action.
In addition to releasing the latest season of the National Heads-Up Poker Championship, PokerGO has also uploaded all previous seasons of the show.
