No Gamble, No Future returned to the PokerGO airwaves on Tuesday for a special two-day, live-streamed $50/$100 no-limit hold'em cash game.
Antonio Esfandiari and MonkeyTilt Founder & CEO Sam 'Senor Tilt' Kiki served as the headliners for the showdown. Within the first half of hour of play, they proved themselves worthy of the spotlight. The last time the PokerGO flagship program took its offerings to the livestream arena, Kiki made waves on the final day of play with a gutsy hero call in a record-setting $946,000 pot.
While our own Matt Hansen diligently reported on the proceedings, Esfandiari may have missed a key detail as he skimmed through the PokerOrg headlines during what is surely the first stop on his daily news intake.
Kiki doesn't like to fold. Not in small pots, medium pots, big pots, or pots of such size that they baffle the mind. In all likelihood, Esfandiari knew this to be true – he's a sharp guy after all, big reader (of our content) – and simply didn't care.
Sometimes, you just want to put a man to a test for all of his money.
'Degenerate gambling is encouraged'
It all started, as every notable pot does, with a raise.
was strong enough to play for $500 in Esfandiari's eyes and as he munched his unseen meal the raising chips went in. Kiki picked up
and wasted no time in 3-betting to $2,000.
"When you're on No Gamble, No Future, I believe degenerate gambling is encouraged," said Brent Hanks watching on from the commentary booth – right before Esfandiari threw out a $10,000 4-bet.
After confirming how much money his opponent had behind, Kiki opted to simply flat-call the raise. There's a reasonable question to ask at this juncture: why bluff the guy who doesn't like to fold? Hanks had a theory.
"I think he's just recognized that Tilt has drastically improved [at] playing poker and he finds folds more frequently," he posited.
Over the course of the next two minutes, Kiki would disprove Hanks' theory resoundingly.
On the flop, Kiki took an even more commanding lead in the hand as he connected with top pair. Esfandiari continued to tell his story, predictably attacking a board that favors his range with a bet of $8,000.
Kiki kept his fish on the hook with another flat call to bring in the turn. With $36,500 in the pot, Esfandiari kept his foot on the gas with a $21,000 bet – while drawing stone dead, his only hope lying in a chop.
After a moment of thought, Hollywood-ing perhaps, Kiki tossed in a call and the river completed the board.
"Does he want to go for it?" Hanks asked.
Yes. Esfandiari quickly moved all-in for his remaining $42,000 and Kiki nearly beat him into the pot, confidently flicking in a single chip.
"I gotta be a good host, you know?" Esfandiari said as the table digested the carnage and Kiki hauled in the $162,500 pot.
