We're just two days away from the start of the 2024 World Series of Poker, and we're getting excited. Each day until the start of the series on May 28, we'll bring you tips and insider info from some of the biggest names in the game.
Daniel Negreanu is a 6x WSOP bracelet champion, a 2x WPT champion and an ambassador for GG Poker with more than $52M in career earnings. You can follow Daniel on X and on YouTube, where he'll be dropping his regular WSOP vlogs.
How should players prep for the WSOP?
Really look deeply into the schedule and at least have a rough plan of attack that can be flexible.
Do all that thinking before the WSOP starts so that when it does you can just focus on playing your best poker.
What is your go-to diet and energy plan for the grind?
Leading up to the WSOP I do a cut, 1850 calorie-a day meal plan, because I know during the WSOP all bets are off!
You expend a lot of energy at a poker table, more than you might think. I don't think it's wise to deprive yourself of calories. Especially late nights, when you are tired and not getting as much sleep, the body will crave sugar, and sugar it gets.
I typically gain 8-10 lbs during the summer and it's not healthy weight, but I know I can get back in shape once its all over.
What event are you most looking forward to this summer?
I'm a mixed game aficionado, so, for me, the event I'm most looking forward to playing is the $50k Poker Players Championship.
What’s been your most memorable WSOP moment?
I'm going to have to go with my WSOP Main Event run in 2015 where I ended up banging my head against the crowd when Joe McKeehan hit the river against me. I was obviously heavily invested emotionally in that one. [Watch that hand play out below.]
