The buzzy Bad Beat Jackpot finally hit at Playground Poker in Montreal on Monday night, handing out the property's largest-ever Pot-Limit Omaha prize from a pot has been building since June of last year.
The grand prize of $924,780 (Canadian dollars) has been on the board since June 4, 2025, when it was previously claimed for just over $70K. The jackpot caused a feeding frenzy at the popular Canadian room, where hold'em players jumped into the PLO mix over the last few weeks for a shot at the big prize. The explosion of interest filled up a new record of 16 tables this past Sunday and the jackpot picked up more speed until it was claimed on Monday.
Straight flush over straight flush
It all went down on table 35 in the $2/5 PLO5 game, which was running with a full table of seven players at the time. Mario S., the eventual winner of the hand, was on the button when five players paid $20 to call the straddle and see a flop of .
Action checked around to the player who straddled for a bet of $100. Mario S. called before he was joined by Ramsey B., the eventual loser of the hand, and the turn was .
All three players checked the turn and the river was . Ramsey bet $400 and the straddler called, setting up an all in for an extra $90 from Mario. Ramsey called the extra $90 and turned over a jack-high straight flush with
, not realizing the straddler still had a decision to make. That decision was a fold, so Mario turned over his
to reveal a king-high straight flush.
The record-breaking jackpot was distributed throughout an electric room, with Ramsey B. taking the lion's share of 40%, or around $370,000, for holding the bad beat hand. Mario grabbed 20% of the pool, or around $185,000, for having the winning straight flush. The rest of the table split up 20% of the pool and the remaining 20% was spread evenly throughout the PLO players at other tables.
Playground's Bad Beat Jackpot payout is just the latest in a line of big prizes at the property, where a group recently busted a $1.5M jackpot with two straight flushes last October. The Omaha jackpot is now reset to just over $100K and you can keep track of it on the Playground Poker website.
