Poker's best and brightest have turned out on the Las Vegas Strip this week, where Nick Petrangelo and Cherish Andrews picked up wins in the opening days of the North American Poker Tour stop at Resorts World in Las Vegas.

It has been a popular turnout so far, with 84 entries jumping in the $10,300 Mystery Bounty and 53 in the $20,000 Super High Roller. The PokerStars Open Main Event, which kicked off on the festival's opening day, brought 947 entries after it added a few late walk-ups to the surviving 267 players for Wednesday's Day 2.

Near miss for Faraz

In the $20,000 High Roller, Petrangelo emerged at the end of an all-star final table that returned on Wednesday after they couldn't quite finish on Tuesday night. The final eight came back in the money, each guaranteed at least $40,600, but they all wanted the $309,030 up top.

Petrangelo beat Faraz Jaka in heads-up play in a fast two-hour finale, sending the popular poker coach home with $202,600. Kristen Foxen followed in third with a near-miss and $146,800 while Jesse Lonis and Cary Katz rounded out the top five. Also returning for the final day were Jeremy Ausmus, Stephen Chidwick, and Thomas Boivin

Everyone jumped in the $50K after Nick Petrangelo wrapped up the $20K. Everyone jumped in the $50K after Nick Petrangelo wrapped up the $20K.

Andrews nabs first PGT win

Meanwhile, Cherish Andrews took care of business on Tuesday in the finale of the $10,300 Mystery Bounty, earning $111,300 for the win and $220,000 in bounties from a field of 84 entries. Petrangelo, who would go on to win the aforementioned $20,000 SHR Warmup, finished in second and David Coleman was third. It was another final table of familiar faces with Samuel Laskowitz, Clemen Deng, Katz, and Landon Tice all within striking distance of the top prize.

It was the first PokerGO Tour win for Andrews, who now sits in the top 150 players on the season-long leaderboard. She has some work to do to crack the top 40, but her victory also moved her to the top spot on the Dream Seat Leaderboard, where she could grab a wild card spot in the season-ending PGT Championship.

Elsewhere, the PokerStars Open Main Event is down to under 100 players on Day 2 from an original 947. Dan Sepiol, Jared Jaffee, and Andrew Moreno are among the biggest stacks, along with Jeff Madsen, Aaron Massey, and Michael Rossitto all popping up in the top-10 chip counts. Our very own Terrance Reid is still in and sitting in the top 20 as the tournament enters the later stages of Day 2 with around 97 players after dinner.
