In a special edition of PokerOrg's The Interview live from the Legends Lounge, we caught up with Liv Boeree and Igor Kurganov after they jetted into Las Vegas to play the 2025 WSOP Main Event this summer. Liv made a deep run and cashed in the Main Event, while Igor extended his streak of playing the Main without cashing — he's currently 0-for-12.

Igor shares that he actually made it to Day 3 the first time he played the Main Event, but ended up oversleeping and blinding out. And even we know that’s not a GTO move.

We also talked with Liv about her "mental" run in the WSOP Super Main Event last December, when she won $2.8 million, the biggest cash by a woman in poker history. "Good times" is how she describes it and she said she had fun throughout and had “not an ounce of disappointment” when she went out in fourth. She contrasts this with the stress she suffered during her breakout EPT win back in 2010 in Sanremo.

You want controversy? We’ve got that as well. Liv talks about the latest episode of her Win-Win podcast with Dominic Cummings, the architect of Brexit in Britain. Liv says she was dead against Brexit at the time but has since started to understand some of the arguments behind it.

Igor and Liv also talk about population dynamics, climate change and animal rights — the latter being a subject very close to Liv’s heart. Ahead of the WSOP Super Main Event, Liv had pledged “20% of whatever I win to help get rid of factory farming or at least improve the conditions for animals on factory farms, because it is literally the worst thing on earth, what's going on there.”

'So many people are starved of a social life'

LIv and Igor touch on a lot of different subjects in the 20-minute interview. Watch the video above and hear them talk about:

  • Poker’s second boom and the fresh energy in the game.
  • Why Igor hasn’t played much over the past five years — and what he’s been doing instead.
  • Whether the two plan to play more in the future.
  • If Liv is planning a return to Paradise this December.
  • The philosophy behind the Win-Win podcast.
