This past weekend saw a bit of live sports programming as the duo of Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson went down in defeat to Peyton Manning and Tiger Woods in a charity golf event. Over $20 Million was raised for Covid-19 relief efforts.

Not only was the event a huge hit in terms of money raised and television ratings, it helped us learn more about each of the players. Here are some thoughts:

Tom Brady: This event really helped Brady’s image as he was shown to be a lot more human than people give him credit for. The splitting of his pants was just one humorous moment. He also battled back from a disastrous front-9 to play better down the stretch.

Phil Mickelson: Mickelson also came across very good overall. He is gregarious by nature and it was fun watching him instruct Brady on how to play the holes.

Peyton Manning: Manning might have less Super Bowl wins than Brady (6 to 2), but he is clearly the better golfer. He’s also extremely funny with good timing, although it’s clear that a lot of his jokes are written beforehand.

Tiger Woods: Woods was easily the most uncomfortable of the four talking in an off-the-cuff fashion. That’s surprising because he comes across well during regular appearances. That said, his competitive nature and desire to win even this charity tourney was fun to watch.

Online poker sites also getting into the charity act

Last month, the Winning Poker Network held the All-In for America Celebrity Poker Tournament. The event raised big money for FeedingAmerica.org for Covid-19 relief, including $1 Million alone from the US-facing online poker network.

Some of the celebrities who played in the online tourney were Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Tom Brady, Adam Sandler, Tobey Maguire, Jon Hamm and Bryan Cranston.
