The Charity Series of Poker is a non-profit organization that organizes and promotes charity poker tournaments to raise money and awareness for a variety of worthy charities. Since it was founded in 2014, the CSoP has hosted 32 events to raise funds for 17 different charities. On Saturday, August 28, Charity Series of Poker will be putting on a virtual event to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
CSoP Founder and President Matt Stout told us that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital holds a special place in his heart since he lost his two year-old grandnephew to cancer last year. What was already one of his favorite charities has since become his top philanthropic priority.
“I was lucky enough to be a part of their Volunteer Leadership Conference in 2019, which is when I was able to see first-hand how incredible the organization is,” Stout said. “The hospital feels more like a brightly-colored playhouse than a hospital, and their wonderful staff pulls the kids around in Radio Flyer wagons instead of wheelchairs or hospital beds.”
Tournament and event details
“St. Jude Raising Hope For the Kids” is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. PST on August 28. The event will be live-streamed, and the online poker tournament will be run through Faded Spade. Comedian and poker commentator Joe Stapleton will serve as the event’s emcee.
While the majority of the prize pool will go to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, there will be some great prizes up for grabs for players who enter the tournament. The grand prize is a weekend getaway to Las Vegas that includes a two night stay at a hotel, two dinner reservations, two buy-ins to the in-person St. Jude Against All Odds Poker Tournament, and a $50 restaurant gift card.
The runner-up in Saturday’s charity tournament will receive a one-hour online meet-and-greet or poker lesson with poker legend Daniel Negreanu. The third place winner will earn a seat in a future Charity Series of Poker celebrity cash game.
Actor Peter Mackenzie will be one of 10 guests playing in this tournament with a bounty on their head. Players who knock out one of the guest bounties or finish in fourth place through ninth place will receive a gift bag full of St. Jude branded merchandise.
