When I woke up yesterday morning, I thought there was a chance I would be on a flight home before dinner. I was almost out of chips in the World Series Main Event and my hopes of a repeat championship seemed cooked for the year.
I might have been short-stacked, under-caffeinated, and just delusional enough to believe the poker gods had not yet finished making me look like a yahoo. Whatever it was, it worked out.
A Moneymaker miracle kind of day
I came back with 39,500 in chips, which in Main Event terms of a Day 2 stack is not so much a pile of hope as it is a smoke signal to my wife that I'll be home soon. And then I’m sitting there with eight-three and somehow make quads. Next thing I know, I've made it to Day 3.
Now, I'm about to find something quick to eat, and I've heard that when I get back they are gonna put me up on the big stage under the lights. If you have an ESPN Select subscription, you can watch there.
Hopefully I don't mess it up, because if I survive until tomorrow, that's when all this effort can turn into some cash.
