The World Poker Tour's upcoming WPT World Championship main event, set to begin on December 12, continues to build its field through a bevy of satellite opportunities that will award seat packages into the seasone-ending $15 million tourney. The WPT has recently announced that more than 500 seats into the $10,400 event will be awarded through numerous online and live channels.
Many of the qualifiers will be awarded a $12,000 WPT World Championship Passport, which includes the $10,400 buy-in, a four-night stay at the hosting venue, Wynn Las Vegas, and a $1,000 travel stipend. For international players who qualify through WPT Global, the passport package increases the travel stipend to $2,000.
"By offering so many different avenues to the WPT World Championship, poker players of all backgrounds and skill levels can be a part of this record-breaking event," said the WPT's CEO, Adam Pliska. "We look forward to greeting all qualifiers at the renowned Wynn Las Vegas in December."
WPT Global dedicated to international qualifiers
The online WPT Global satellite channel will contribute the largest share of pre-qualifiers into the WPT World Championship main. Currently, WPT Global offers daily $550 satellites that award at least one seat package each. On Sundays, that satellite event awards at least eight seats to the top finishers. Lower-priced mega-satellites are also available.
Over at ClubWPT, the World Poker Tour's subscription-based site, members can enter weekly freerolls through which a WPT World Championship Passport will be awarded every Sunday leading up the December live event. No purchase is necessary to enter the freerolls, as a WPT presser on the satellites notes.
On the live-poker side of the run-up to December, Wynn Las Vegas continues to hold qualifiers into the World Championship main event, which marks the end of the WPT's ongoing Season 20. Upcoming $1,100 satellites on October 16 and October 30 will award at least 10 seats each.
The WPT World Championship itself is a weeks-long festival that begins on December 1 at Wynn Las Vegas. The festival runs through December 19 and includes 22 events in addition to the $10,400 main event. Including the $15 million guarantee for the main, well over $20 million in prize money will be awarded throughout the series.
