On Monday, the $250,000 Super High Roller at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) played down to a winner.
The livestream coverage of the event's final table featured commentary from Ali Nejad and Jared Bleznick.
In past commentary gigs, Bleznick brought a refreshing dose of authenticity to the production. If there's one thing you can say about him, it's that he's not afraid to be himself – in the booth or otherwise.
And he's pretty confident in his own ability. In an interview with PokerOrg last year, he said: "This may sound cocky, but I could be the best commentator in the history of poker. I know what the people want, right?"
During Monday's livestream, he brought a similar vibe – but this time around, his antics rubbed some in the poker community the wrong way. As the coverage cut between the wizardry on display in the Super High Roller and the action in the $5,000 Seniors High Roller, Bleznick criticized the production team's decision-making.
"With all due respect to all the producers here, why the hell are we watching a $5K Seniors event when we have five left in one of the most prestigious tournaments of all time?" Bleznick asked.
Despite Nejad's succinct explanation as to how the stream format allows for the showcasing of multiple events without missing any of the action, Bleznick continued to bemoan the decision throughout the stream – even going so far as to remove his headset as a form of protest until the Super High Roller coverage resumed.
'A complete turn off'
ACR Poker Team Pro Drew 'BetOnDrew' Gonzalez was among those who found Bleznick's comments to be in poor taste.
"Blez was disrespectful not only to WSOP production, but also to his fellow commentators," Gonzalez wrote.
Tyler Phillips took Gonzalez's sentiment a step further – highlighting how Bleznick's words may have affected the experience of the friends and family of those players who made the Seniors final table.
"I have enjoyed his commentary every year but this was a complete turn off and hopefully he issues an apology to the people at that final table," Phillips wrote.
On the flip side, some saw a measure of truth in Bleznick's viewpoint – and made a decently convincing argument as to why he was in the right.
He’s got a point. Super Bowl is on and the network switches to a junior college game. Seems pretty stupid to me also.

The WSOP is for everyone
While Bleznick certainly makes a compelling case for keeping the focus on the best of the best that the poker world has to offer, it's also important to remember that the WSOP is a poker festival for players of all skill levels and bankrolls – not just those who ply their trade on the super-high-roller circuit. For some, making a WSOP final table is the highlight of their poker journeys, the biggest moment they can imagine.
And that's a moment worthy of respect.
At the end of the day, the recreational players and lesser-known grinders are every bit as important to the success of the WSOP as the Jason Koons and Bryn Kenneys of the world – and the series is better for it.
Here's the best of the rest when it comes to reactions to Bleznick's WSOP commentary on Monday.
He completely shit on the 5k seniors. Not even a low buy in. Was completely ridiculous. Then left the stream. Those players were surely proud of their ft. Sure they had friends and family watching to hear bleznick yell WHY ARE WE WATCHING THIS because we dont wanna only see hrs

Yes blez covering the 500 colossus would be so epic after dogging all the senor players

Totally agree man. I enjoy Blez and his insights, but lost a little respect for him yesterday tbh. Especially when he was told multiple times no hands would be missed with the 250k

Such utter nonsense, he is clearly just hyping the 250k final table. I as a viewer dislike the constant switching. Just as I am getting into the 250k they switch to seniors, it's not enjoyable. Blez loves poker and he gets it.

But it's not that serious. Relax.
