No Gamble, No Future Season 7 continued on Tuesday evening with another episode of $50/$100 no-limit hold'em action. Phil Hellmuth and Jennifer Tilly highlighted the lineup, joined by Randy '3Coin' Sadler, and a contingency of Chicago's finest players including Freddy Hamad, Mark 'Pink' Lanelli, Luis 'Brazil God' Rizental, and Alex Aqel.
In the early goings of the episode, Hellmuth and Hamad tangled first in a pot and, later, in a verbal joust. Hellmuth's decision-making in the hand wasn't exactly a ringing endorsement of his skills in the cash game arena – news that will come as no surprise to Marc Goone in the wake of his criticism of Hellmuth's game.
A Hellmuth-ian moment for the ages
It started with a raise to $300 from Aqel with . Hellmuth, along with half of the table, called the raise with
before the action worked its way around to Hamad in the big blind. With
, he announced a raise to $2,300. While the other players returned their rags to the dealer, Hellmuth fought on with a call in position.
On the flop, Hamad continued for a $2,000 bet with his gutshot straight draw. Hellmuth, technically in the lead with the best hand, thought for a moment and then raised to $5,000. Hamad wasted little time in throwing in the extra $3,000.
"This is going to be a highlight for sure," said Rizental as the dealer rolled over the turn to complete Hamad's straight.
The action quickly went check, check on the turn and the inconsequential completed the board. Hamad fired $11,000 into the $15,500 in the middle and Hellmuth entered monologue mode.
"I will say this: Freddy has beat me every time we've played. And I know I'm going to beat him for a lot of money, but he's one of those guys that's just gotten away with it," Hellmuth explained to the table.
"I know if we keep playing of course I'm going to smash him because nobody can play that fast and beat me," he continued. "Nobody on the planet. Nobody."
'When I play the maniacs, I starve them'
Hellmuth then tossed his cards back to the dealer – but the verbal sparring had only just begun.
"If you tell Freddy what you raised him to $5K with, he will gladly stack off with you," Ianelli told Hellmuth.
"Yeah, Phil, can we talk about that? What did you have?" Hamad inquired. "Please just tell me."
"Why would I...? We're playing poker now, I'm not going to tell you anything," Hellmuth muttered. "You think I laid down ace-king?"
"No, I don't think you had anything," Hamad shot back.
"You think I called $2,000 before the flop with nothing, Freddy?" Hellmuth asked. "Do you have any idea who I am?"
"I'm your biggest fan. What do you mean do I know who you are?" came Hamad's response.
"When I play the maniacs, I starve them. Everybody else thinks you gamble with the maniacs. I starve them. Johnny Chan taught me that twenty years ago," Hellmuth concluded.
