CoinPoker has moved to ban several accounts from its platform for using "seat scripting" technology in violation of the site's Terms and Conditions. In a statement from the site, CoinPoker has vowed to "continue to do so whenever we notice this unfair practice."

While it's unclear exactly how many accounts were banned, CoinPoker has proven itself to be proactive with taking steps towards making the site fair and safe for players to compete.

How does seat scripting work?

On nearly all online poker platforms, some players try to gain an unfair advantage by seat scripting. These seat-scripting players make use of third-party applications and technology to monitor cash game lobbies, waiting for identified recreational players to join tables before reserving seats alongside them. With the ability to quickly take seats in these games, seat-scripting players gain an unfair advantage by targeting players they perceive as weaker while using third-party technology to do so.

Essentially, seat scripting is a type of predatory, technology-assisted game selection that preys upon recreational players.

Patrick "Pads" Leonard CoinPoker Ambassador Patrick "Pads" Leonard was pleased to see the bans come down.

CoinPoker Ambassador Patrick Leonard re-posted the announcement for CoinPoker with the following message: "Don't let the door hit you on your way out guys."

While it's not against any rules or ethics of poker to seek out the best games to play in, utilizing scripting technology takes that a step beyond what is acceptable. With these bans, CoinPoker has made it clear they will not tolerate this behavior on its site and, furthermore, plans to "constantly monitor games and will enforce these rules when any violation occurs."
