Professional poker player Doug Polk is pulling out all the stops to remove Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman from office — and those efforts go beyond ranting on social media.
Polk has formed the Committee to Recall Carolyn Goodman and filed a notice of intent with the Las Vegas city clerk to try and recall her. An information website featuring the recall petition or a request for a recall kit is available at RecallCarolynGoodman.com
"We are recalling the mayor because over the last few weeks, she has failed to represent her constituency responsibly. Not only in her clear disregard for public health but also with her support for the casino owners over the people of Las Vegas," said Polk in a recent news report with the ABC Las Vegas affiliate. "Additionally, she is barely able to speak coherent sentences while discussing the subject matter. She is unfit to serve as the mayor of Las Vegas.
While not necessarily a national household name prior to the pandemic, Goodman stole the spotlight in a wild interview on CNN with Anderson Cooper, in which she doubled down on her hands-off approach to reopening Las Vegas and argued that she isn’t responsible for the health and wellbeing of the citizens of Las Vegas.
"I am not a private owner. That's the competition in this country. The free enterprise and to be able to make sure that what you offer the public meets the needs of the public," Goodman told CNN's Anderson Cooper. "Right now, we're in a crisis health-wise, and so for a restaurant to be open or a small boutique to be open, they better figure it out. That's their job. That's not the mayor's job."
In order to recall the Mayor, roughly 6,500 signatures must be garnered from those who voted in the 2019 mayoral election.
