Doyle Brunson, typically an active poker Twitter member, had been absent from the social media site since mid-June. But the poker legend is finally back and he hasn't missed a step.
Brunson's son, Todd, who is also a fellow Poker Hall of Famer, shared with the Twitter world in August that his father was locked out of his account. After repeated attempts to log back into his account over more than three months, "Texas Dolly" is back in the mix.
The elder Brunson recently logged back into his Twitter account thanks to the help of Daniel Negreanu's agent, Brian Balsbaugh, and his daughter Pamela Brunson. It took Doyle no time to return to his old form on social media. And he admitted suffering through a Twitter withdrawal.
"I found out something these past 3 months. You can live without twitter but the withdrawals are severe," Brunson posted soon after his return.
While he was M.I.A. from Twitter, Brunson turned 87 on August 10. He's widely considered one of the greatest poker players in history. "The Godfather of Poker" has 10 WSOP bracelets and was the 1976 and 1977 WSOP Main Event champion. He's cashed for over $10 million in live tournaments and has been a regular in the highest stakes Las Vegas cash games for over 40 years.
Brunson retired from tournament poker in 2018. His 6th place bustout in the $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Championship, his final event, was covered by mainstream media, including ESPN. Few would disagree that Brunson doesn't belong on poker's Mount Rushmore.
Brunson gets back in the game
On social media, Doyle has been a controversial figure. He often makes pro-conservative remarks that ruffle some liberal feathers. He didn't miss a beat despite three months away from social media.
"After reading twitter this morning, I would fear for my life if I said anything good about Trump. My take was they both suck and it's embarrassing these 2 guys are the best candidates we can offer," Doyle Brunson (@TexDolly) wrote.
Although he's made it clear he supports Trump over Democratic candidate Joe Biden, Brunson isn't exactly the biggest Trump supporter.
"I've never liked Trump as a person," Brunson said on Twitter. "I do think he did a great job as president."
Brunson was mildly critical of Trump's Tuesday night debate performance. He questioned why the president didn't "pounce on the open borders that Biden supports."
Doyle, a Las Vegas resident, plans on playing poker for the rest of his life. But he hasn't been spotted in Bobby's Room at Bellagio since the pre-coronavirus days. Perhaps he'll grace everyone at Bellagio with his presence soon.
