Barett Dziok was down to just a few big blinds on the bubble in his Day 1 flight, but rallied back to find a bag.

On Day 2, he was middle of the pack for most of the day before bagging a top-3 stack with six players left.

Then Day 3 started brutally when his pocket jacks got rivered by Oskar Musialowski’s pocket sixes to deny him an elimination and drop him right back down the counts.

None of that mattered for the self-employed businessman from Massachusetts as he weathered every storm and obstacle thrown his way enroute to his first career Borgata/BetMGM trophy and the $185,850 first-place prize in the $600 Deep Stack Kick Off at the 2026 Borgata Spring Poker Open.

Surreality

In fact, not only was this his first Borgata/BetMGM trophy, it was his first-ever tournament victory and it sent his career HendonMob earnings through the roof. Before this, Dziok had just under $8,000 in career earnings. His previous largest cash of $3,743 coming from a 109th-place finish back at the 2017 WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open.

When asked what a score like this means, Dziok didn't really have an answer but emphasized that he didn't plan on doing anything crazy. In fact, he was more interested in making it home to celebrate with his family for what he called a "surreal moment."

However, surreality turned into reality when tournament director Bob Smith walked over mid-interview to hand him his payout slip, which put a big smile on his face.

"I have an absolutely incredible two-year-old girl and a partner of the last ten years. I haven't seen them in the last four days, so looking forward to giving them a big hug and a kiss," Dziok said. "Maybe I'll put the check in the bank first and then take the family on vacation."

'Sad that it's over'

The rough start was just a blip on the radar on the road to the title for Dziok, and things really got going when he rivered trip tens against Angel Lopez four-handed. However, it wasn't all sunshine as Lopez shoved the river for over 20 million, sending Dziok into the tank for almost five minutes.

Dziok held ace-ten and eventually found the call to send Lopez home in brutal fashion as the Borgata regular also had a ten but found himself outkicked and hit the rail in 4th place for $57,150.

The huge pot gave Dziok nearly 70% of the chips in play, and he made quick work of Zak Delaimy (third place for $86,150) and William Beer (second place for $126,250) in the matter of a few hands after sending Lopez home.

"I'm kinda sad that it's over," Dziok said of his run to the title. "This was the result we were looking for, but having that great run of cards was really helpful."

Earlier in the day, the two short stacks, Lucas Bernui (sixth place for $29,695) and Oskar Musialowski (fifth place for $38,910), couldn't get anything going and hit the rail before the fireworks that would happen later at the final table.

The Borgata Spring Poker Open continues in Atlantic City with more to come, including the $500 Borgata Almighty Stack and the Spring Poker Open Championship on May 3. Check back with PokerOrg every day for live action from the floor.
