Jared Griener (pictured above), an LA-based poker pro ranked number 2 on Utah’s all-time money list, posted messages on social media earlier this week about an alleged assault and robbery at his rented Airbnb in Las Vegas.
According to Griener’s account robbers were waiting inside the property, with the attack occuring just moments after he had collected his winnings from the WSOP summer series. As a result, he says, his entire bankroll has been stolen.
“After busting The Closer I collected payouts from the summer and drove back to my Airbnb,” reads Griener’s initial post, below. “When I walked in the front door two men were there waiting, immediately tackled me to the ground and tied me up and took my backpack with my entire roll in it.”
Griener’s 2026 WSOP results comprised four recorded cashes for a total of $78,280, including $57,500 for a run to 218th place in the Main Event.
He went on to post that “It’s likely someone was watching me at @wsop and knew that I was on my way home with cash. Las Vegas detectives are currently investigating.”
KSNV News 3 Las Vegas has released footage taken from a nearby doorbell camera in the aftermath of the incident, as Griener — with duct tape visible around his hand — asks for help.
The news report confirms that police are investigating and that no arrests have yet been made. It also states that Airbnb is offering a partial refund for his reservation, but that a claim from Griener for host liability insurance has not yet been opened.
In a lengthy thread on X Griener goes on to say that “These people knew the door code to my Airbnb, they were waiting for me inside and video surveillance from neighbors showed they arrived at the Airbnb 10 minutes before me.”
Responses to the post on social media have largely been supportive of Griener, who won a WSOP Circuit ring in 2023, although some have voiced suspicion over what they see as a potential scam or fabrication.
