David Funkhouser has taken down the $10k H.O.R.S.E. event, the first in the PokerGO Mixed Game II series that kicked off in Las Vegas this week.
There were 72 entries for the first of a scheduled nine events, with 11 players set to share in the $720k prize pool and $187,200 up top. David “ODB” Baker was the bubble boy on Thursday night when his nut flush draw failed to appear on the river against Dylan Linde in a hand of Omaha Hi-Lo.
With $21,600 sewn up, they played down to the final seven – Eli Elezra, David Funkhouser, Dylan Linde, Chino Rheem, Paul Volpe, Dylan Weisman and Anthony Zinno, who reappeared on Friday to fight for the title.
They were all looking to follow in Dan Zack’s footsteps, with Zack winning the inaugural series in February of this year with 5 cashes worth $524,700.
Elezra has to settle for third
The final table saw the two Dylans fall early, followed by WSOP and WPT champion Zinno, rivered by Chino Rheem. Rheem himself stumbled at the next hurdle, sent to the rail in 4th place by David Funkhouser.
Poker Hall of Famer Eli Elezra had to settle for third spot and a $93,600 payday after his short stack failed to hold up in Stud Hi-Lo, leaving Funkhouser and Volpe to fight it out for the win.
The end came in a hand of Hold’em, with Volpe trailing 6:1.
Volpe: A♣ 10♦️️
Funkhouser: K♦️️ 10♠
Volpe led out on the K♣ 2♦️️ 4♠ flop and on the Q❤️ turn, only to see the bad news when he called Funkhouser's raise. Funkhouser sealed victory on the 9❤️ river.
