Main Event kicks off this Sunday in the $100 million guaranteed series
The latest chapter of big-money poker tournament series at GGPoker rolls on to its conclusion this weekend.
The GGPoker $100 million guaranteed WSOP Winter Online Circuit series plays out its penultimate day of competition Sunday. Day 2 of Event #18: $1,700 Main Event brings back all surviving players from multiple Day 1 flights and plays down to a final table.
The final nine then return to play out the final table on Saturday, Jan. 16. The $10 million guaranteed Main Event caps off the month-long series, which has crowned multiple six-figure winners since kicking off Dec. 10.
Big paydays so far in the Winter Online Circuit
Series highlights so far include Joaquin Melongo taking down Event #2: Super MILLION$ High Roller for a $636,072. The Uruguay-based player earned the biggest payout across all Winter Online Circuit events so far, and also clinched his second career WSOP Circuit Ring.
Event #2 took the place of the regularly scheduled weekly Super MILLION$, increasing the prize pool from $2 million to $5 million and adding the WSOP Circuit Ring as an additional prize.
Christian Jeppsson followed up with a big payday in Event #3: $3,000 Deepstack No-Limit Hold’em Championship. The Sweden-based grinder earned his first career WSOP Circuit ring and a $213,928 cash prize.
Runner-up finisher Daan Mulders also earned a $200k-plus payout in Event #3. Mulders and Jeppsson agreed to a heads-up deal that saw Mulders earn $213,400 for the second-place finish.
Other big winners from the series include Michael Addamo, who picked up in 2021 where he left off after a stellar year of results in 2020. Addamo topped a field of 8,735 entries in Event #15: $400 New Year Colossus, earning $374,604 and adding his first career WSOP Circuit Ring to his ever-growing list of poker accolades.
The massive field for the New Year Colossus brought the final prize pool to $3,280,600, far surpassing the guarantee of $2.021 million. The trend of big turnouts for the Winter Online Circuit festival persisted for most of the events in the series, while the online tournament circuit continues to flourish as 2021 begins.
Heads-Up Championship, Main Event still to come
Just four more events remain to play out in the Winter Online Circuit series. Event #13: $10,000 Heads-Up No-Limit Hold’em played down to the final four players this past weekend, and those four come back Saturday, Jan. 9 to play for the $348,250 first prize.
All-time online poker great Niklas Astedt plays Cooper Li on one side of the semifinals. The winner of that match takes on the victor of the Mirza Muhovic vs. Ian Modder battle on the other side of the bracket.
Several Day 1 flights for the Main Event are still left to play out on GGPoker leading up to Sunday’s Day 2. The Jan. 16 final table will play out on the GGPoker Twitch channel with cards-up coverage.
