Shiina Okamoto’s deep run in the 2026 WSOPE Main Event came to a brutal end when her pocket aces were cracked by quad jacks in a 9.7 million pot.
The Japanese pro had been among the chip leaders on Day 4, returning from the dinner break with a top-ten stack of 5.1 million (50bb), before disaster struck early in Level 27.
In her exit hand, she picked up in the small blind and three-bet. Vasileios Panagiotidis called to see the
flop.
Okamoto bet out, and Panagiotidis called to the turn.
She then bet 2 million on the river, leaving just 4 big blinds behind. Panagiotidis jammed, and she called to see her opponent flip
for turned quads.
She was eliminated in 37th, cashing for €40,000.
Okamoto already boasts two WSOP bracelets, winning back-to-back Ladies Championships in 2024 and 2025. She also finished runner-up in the same event in 2023.
A WSOPE Main Event bracelet would have been a huge statement. Instead, she’ll be left wondering what might have been after busting a deep run in such brutal fashion.
Quads strike Deeb twice at WSOPE
It’s not the first time quads have made themselves felt at the 2026 WSOPE.
Shaun Deeb finished runner-up in Events #2 and #3 – and lost to quads both times.
First it happened in the €3K Mixed PLO/PLO8/Big O.
Then, in the Colossus, Deeb got through a field of 2,662 only to lose a brutal heads-up match where he started with a 2:1 chip lead and struggled to win a meaningful pot.
In the final hand, Gilles Silbernagel moved all-in on the river with the board reading .
