Netflix was on hand at the WSOP Main Event to shoot scenes with Phil Hellmuth for a documentary about Las Vegas, but Martin Kabrhel may have stolen the show.
Hellmuth busted out of the Main Event in the early part of Day 3 on Wednesday, where he struggled to get anything going in the leadup to the money bubble. A few moments later, he was seen in the hallway signing his media release for the upcoming Netflix documentary when Kabrhel interrupted to slice off some attention for himself.
The documentary, according to a nearby producer, will tell the story of the history of Las Vegas against the backdrop of UFC President Dana White's gambling lifestyle. White is one of the valley's most notable degenerate gamblers, and he's been filming with the crew on and off since November.
'I'm a very shy boy'
Meanwhile, Hellmuth is one of the most recognizable faces in poker and the obvious choice for a mainstream documentary, but the unwitting crew may have stumbled into their next star when a curious Kabrhel walked up to see what was going on.
"I'm a very shy boy," Kabrhel told producers, who were eager to grab an interview. "I don't like cameras and other stuff. That's the only problem."
He was lying, of course, and more than happy to spend a few minutes talking about gambling. The first question: what type of person plays poker?
"I think weird people," Kabrhel explained. "It's like 22-22% in the population of the people who have this gene, you know? And they just go for it, you know? We gamble not only in poker, but in everyday life. Sometimes you just go to the girl and she rejects you, but you gamble."
Who is Martin Kabrhel?
Kabrhel answered questions about baccarat, blackjack, and poker. "Poker has more like competitive aspect compared to other casino games," he said. "I think there's a broader audience which can possibly come to poker."
But the main topic was about life in Las Vegas, where Kabrhel has been living since late May.
"Las Vegas is Las Vegas. There are a few other places in the world where you can really gamble. In Vegas, Phil Hellmuth was asking me what day it is today. I really didn't know. And it was funny. I was trying to bluff him and I said eighth of July. And it was eighth of July, but it was such a coincidence because I was trying to say random day."
"I'm pretty smart guy, to be honest, but I don't know what day is today because I'm sleeping, eating, playing something. So, you forget, you forget about time, about everything. And yeah, it's kind of exhausting. I would be so happy to be back in Europe and see the kids and do some normal things."
Producers rounded it off with one last question: who is Martin Kabrhel?
"I'm definitely not a professional poker player, but I like poker. I like all the games. It's fun for me. I'm an entrepreneur. I have several companies, and yeah, you know, I just like poker. I'm enjoying it, and I'm trying to enjoy when I play poker because it's such a boring game. So when it is boring, you need to make it fun, right? For myself or another self. So that's me."
No word yet on a release date for the Netflix documentary.
