Yes, you read that correctly. Sasha Liu built 10 – count 'em, 10 – starting stacks in just two levels on Day 2ABC of the WSOP Main Event.
Yes, we know it’s early, and the bracelet is still many days away, but damn, that’s impressive.
Liu was one of 312 players to enter Day 2ABC of the Main Event in its two levels of late registration, starting with blinds of 400/800 (800).
Late in the second level of the day, her 60,000 chip starting stack had added a zero, eclipsing 600,000, before she finished the level with 597,600 and the chip lead.
What does it take to run it up like this on Day 2 of the Main Event?
“I ran pretty hot," she admitted. "I had kings, and flopped a set against aces. He shoved on the river, so I got a quick double, and it just went from there.”
Aside from running hot, everything else that could go right did.
“My bluffs got through, my value (bets) got paid, and they were bluffing into me when I had a good hand, so everything worked out.”
Sharing a bit of the wealth
A heater like that had to cool off a bit at some point, and by dinner break, Liu had given a few chips back and sat on around 430,000 – still good for a top-10 stack.
Hot, cold, whatever. Liu isn’t concerned about running too good too soon or cooling off from her scorching start to the day. She’s just focused on controlling what she can to make a deep run in the Main Event.
“Every hand is a new hand," she says. "I don’t think about the past. I’m just looking at every hand and trying to make good decisions.”
Having nearly half a million chips certainly doesn't hurt either.
“Obviously everyone is trying to survive, and I’ll make good use of that with my stack.”
