The poker player was found burned to death, and the investigation into the murder continues
A little more than two weeks ago, the poker community was shaken when the body of poker player Susie "Susie Q" Zhao was found in a parking lot in Detroit, Michigan. Zhao, 33, was widely known in the poker world, especially in California, and her tragic death is under investigation after her burnt body was discovered inside of a vehicle in the Pontiac Lake Recreation Area, northwest of Detroit. The state's authorities have been working on the investigation of this murder and, according to the data shared recently, Zhao's death might be related to her poker career.
"We have to determine whether or not this is a cover-up, or this may be some sort of retaliatory incident because of her profession," Detective Lt. Chris Hild, a White Lake Township police spokesman, told local media. Even though she was a native of Michigan, Zhao spent most of her time in recent years in Los Angeles where she was a frequent visitor at LA’s Bicycle Casino, Commerce, and other poker rooms. Besides playing poker, Zhao also commented on the Bicycle Casino’s popular "Live at the Bike" series, and the show shared public condolences after the tragic death of Zhao. "We would like to send our thoughts to the friends and families of Susie Q. She played and commentated on Live at the Bike and will be missed," wrote Live at the Bike in its Twitter account.
According to the investigation, Zhao returned from LA to live with her parents roughly a month before her murder. It is not yet understood if she was suffering a financial crisis for the past two years; however, that is one of the possibilities that the authorities are entertaining as it might be perhaps connected with her murder.
