Rare live appearance from Ingram ends in victory
Joey Ingram ventured far out of his comfort zone in playing the Bally’s Power Poker Series $400 No-Limit Hold’em heads-up event. By tournament’s end, Ingram added “Heads-Up No-Limit Champion” to his list of poker accolades.
Ingram put together a string of five heads up wins Feb. 11-12, coming away with a $4,429 payday in the Bally’s Power Poker Series $400 Heads-Up event. While that payday might pale in comparison to Ingram’s online Pot-Limit Omaha scores, the nature of the win and Ingram’s status as one of poker’s most influential figures turns the victory into a newsworthy event.
Ingram’s place in the poker economy includes status as one of the game’s most important and prolific content creators. He’s also perhaps the most passionate advocate for what he calls the “great game of Pot-Limit Omaha,” with an unknown but likely substantial figure of money won in online PLO games over the past decade-plus.
Did High Stakes Feud coverage fuel Ingram’s win?
Ingram rarely plays live, let alone participates in No-Limit Hold’em events. Perhaps inspired by Doug Polk’s recent appearance on Ingram’s Poker Life Podcast, Ingram played the Bally’s event and documented the journey on Twitter.
Polk’s Poker Life appearance went in-depth on his heads-up challenge and $1.2 million victory in the High Stakes Feud match against Daniel Negreanu. Did the two-hour-plus interview with Polk instill Ingram with the knowledge needed to take down a live No-Limit heads-up tournament?
Ingram covered over 100 hours of the Polk vs. Negreanu match on his YouTube channel, so he certainly got plenty of study time by watching Polk, one of the world’s best heads-up players.
Polk took to Twitter Friday to congratulate his longtime friend and poker peer.
“Watches 100+ hours of HUNL then immediately wins the first available HUNL tournament. You love to see it,” Polk tweeted.

Ingram documents the win on Twitter
Ingram’s latest foray into poker coverage included a string of tweets updating followers on his progress in the Bally’s heads-up event.
He advanced to the tournament semifinals after posting three heads-up wins on Feb. 11. After that string of wins, Ingram posted an update on his progress that made the Poker.org “Tweets of the Week” list.
Ingram showed up for Day 2 clearly ready to close out the deal and add a heads-up No-Limit title to an already legendary reputation.
Ingram did just that on Feb. 12, outdueling Adam Walton (2nd - $2,736) in the tournament final. The victory marks Ingram’s fourth career live cash according to the Hendon Mob database.
Will we get to see more of Ingram in the live tournament streets? Poker currently offers an era of unprecedented high-profile heads-up matches, including the Galfond Challenge, Landon Tice vs. Bill Perkins, Polk vs. Negreanu, and possibly Negreanu vs. Phil Hellmuth.
If Ingram threw his name into the ring for some hyped heads-up matches, the poker community would certainly make those battles must-see content, no matter who the opponent.
