Veteran actor-comedian Jason Alexander will be hosting his 21st annual celebrity poker tournament in late March to benefit the WeSPARK Cancer Support Network. Alexander, the famed co-star of "Seinfeld" and a recreational player who has participated in the WSOP Main Event, will again chair the WeSPARK fundraiser.
This year's gala will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at the Woodland Hills Country Club in Los Angeles in an event that's open to the public. The poker tournament features a $150 entry fee, with prizes for the top finishers and a trophy the winner.
WeSPARK Cancer Support Center, according to its mission statement, offers secondary support services for cancer survivors and their families. The licensed charity enhances the quality of life for cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones. WeSPARK states that it "provides free programs and services, which alleviate the physical and emotional side effects of a cancer diagnosis," while offering a spctrum of wellness services. WeSPARK was founded in 2001 by well-known actress Wendie Jo Sperber (Back to the Future, "Bosom Buddies"). Sperber died in 2005 after her own eight-year battle against breast cancer.
Since its earliest years, Alexander's annual poker events has drawn dozens of Hollywood celebrities and the occasional poker personality to the tables. Well-known L.A. poker figure Yosh Nakano serves on WeSPARK's Celebrity and Event Committee, while veteran poker commentator Norman Chad is on the list of celebrities listed as planning to attend this year's event.
Each year's poker tourney attracts numerous actors and entertainers for its worthy cause. Also listed as planning to attend the 2023 event are Nancy Allen, Yancey Arias, Patrika Darbo, Tony Denison, Tom Everett Scott, Gina Hecht, Samm Levine, Don Most, Erin Murphy, Erik Palladino, Mimi Rogers, J.K. Simmons, and Mark L. Walberg.
