How should players prepare for the WSOP grind?
As far as study goes, I think it's important to play deeper stacks a bit more as well as look at ranges for big blind ante. There are a couple of tricks to big blind ante games – one that’s kind of cool is leaving the smallest chip behind if you’re all-in on the river. If you get called and lose you can win 10x the ante you saved next hand because you get the whole BB ante in WSOP.
I think it’s also good to make sure you have your meals and schedule mapped out. Make sure to schedule some off-days, try to hit the gym and be away from poker. I also like to visualize myself with a bunch of money and a bracelet in front of me to keep myself motivated on the end-goal.
While I’m playing, I always picture myself sitting with a stack of whatever the largest denomination chip is.
What WSOP event are you most looking forward to playing?
I’m really looking forward to the $5k 6-Max event. Live poker is usually super slow, and as a big dude I feel really cramped playing nine or 10-handed. 6-Max is a lot more exciting. You have to play wider and be more aggressive, and I really appreciate the extra room!
What is the biggest event you will play?
The biggest event I’ll play will more than likely be one of the $25k buy-ins. Maybe even a $5k. It depends on how I’m feeling, how I’m running, and whether I can sell a bit of action too.
