Newly-formed GGSquad brings together six of poker's most prolific streamers
Kevin Martin was retired from poker altogether one year ago, giving up his gig as a partypoker Team Online ambassador and leaving behind a massive Twitch following. That hiatus is now over, however, for one of the game's most popular streamers.
Martin will head up a new team of sponsored players and streamers for GGPoker. The formation of the new team, dubbed the GGSquad, brings Martin out of retirement and back into regularly-scheduled poker streaming sessions.
Martin, one of poker's most well-regarded personalities and a former Big Brother Canada winner, made the announcement on Twitter this past weekend.
"Big smiles today because I'm officially a sponsored player and streamer for @GGPokerOfficial," wrote Martin in the tweet. "GG Poker is the fastest growing and most innovative poker company in the world and I'm pumped to be on board!"
Martin has 94,000 followers on Twitch and brings that following to the table for the GGPoker streaming expansion.
Martin, five other streamers form GGSquad
Martin comes together with five other players to form the GGSquad. Other players in the group include Pot-Limit Omaha specialist Fernando "JNandez" Habegger, Torsten "jektiss" Brinkmann, Koray "KakiTee" Turker, Michael "Easterdamnz" Van Elsacker, and Patrick "IrEgption" Tardif.
The GGSquad is tasked with offering streaming coverage of not just online poker, but other popular non-poker games like Among Us. The GGSquad will be in action every weekend for the Saturday Sessions programming on the GGPoker Twitch channel.
The formation of the GGSquad is part of an overall expansion of the GGPoker team of ambassadors. GGPoker is now calling its top ambassadors the GGHeroes, and that team includes Daniel Negreanu, Felipe Ramos, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Fedor Holz, and Bryn Kenney. Another new team, dubbed the GGCrew, will create additional streaming coverage and other poker-related content.
Return to the spotlight for Martin
Martin forged a reputation as one of poker's most-watched streamers in the latter half of the 2010s. The former Big Brother winner signed on with PokerStars as one of its Team PokerStars Pro Online Ambassadors in 2016, a role which he kept until 2019. Later that year, he jumped over to partypoker Team Online, but he stayed in that role for just four months.
Martin announced his retirement from streaming, and from poker altogether, in September 2019. After a year away from the public eye, Martin comes back for his third stint as a sponsored player for a major online poker site.
