Kristen Foxen has been eliminated from the 2025 WSOP Main Event early on Day 2D. She started the day with a stack of 88,800 but didn’t make it to the end of the first level on Monday, and the dream of another deep run in poker’s most prestigious tournament ended without fanfare.
Foxen’s end came in a classic flip. She got her 60,000-chip stack in preflop with pocket queens and found herself up against A-K in a pot worth 122,200, or 152 big blinds. A king on the flop signaled the end for her. She said her goodbyes and left the tournament area.
It was a much more low-key exit compared to 2024.
Dream run in 2024 ended in 13th
Last year, Kristen made all the headlines in the Main Event when she came so close to a coveted final table spot. She was eliminated after a huge hand with Joe Serock that marked her determination to win the bracelet.
As Brad Willis wrote last year, “She seemed destined for the final table with the talent to win it all. Instead, she finished in 13th for $600,000. During an interview with PokerGo’s Jeff Platt, Foxen paused while talking about the gratitude she had for the fan and friend support. She took off her glasses and didn’t quite wipe at her eyes.
‘It was overwhelming and very, very sweet. I felt very prepared for the spot and the run. Comparing it to how I played ten years ago, I’m proud of myself,’ she said.
When asked if she felt like she inspired any current or future women players, Foxen was direct.
‘Don’t be afraid to sit down and play with guys,’ she said.”
Women in the 2025 Main Event
It’s been 30 years since a woman made the final table of the Main Event. In 1995, Barbara Enright finished fifth for $114,180, with Dan Harrington going on to claim the bracelet.
Since then, we’ve come closer than Kristen’s 13th place. In 2012, with 11 players left, there were still two women in the field. Incredibly, Elisabeth Hille finished 11th, and Gaelle Baumann went out in 10th, on the final table bubble.
It would be huge for the game if a woman could go one step further this year, and we’re convinced a woman winning the Main Event could help kickstart another poker boom.
