The accolades and tributes for Layne Flack continue to roll in. In the wake of the popular poker pro's untimely death last week at age 52, a new GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help his daughter, Halie, cover her ongoing life expenses.
The GoFundMe campaign was created by other members of Flack's family. Its goal is to assure that his daughter, Halie, continues to meet her mortgage obligations on her home. According to Shawn Flack, Layne had quietly helped his 26-year-old daughter with her mortgage payments in recent years, despite dealing with the ups and downs of his own poker play. Shawn published the GoFundMe fundraiser and also serves as the executor of Layne Flack's trust.
"We wish to honor Layne’s memory by raising some money to further help her out," the fundraiser proclaims. "To those able to contribute, please know that your generosity is greatly appreciated."
Flack GoFundMe campaign adds to pro's legacy
Halie Flack was among those appearing on a recent episode of Mike Matusow's popular "The Mouthpiece" podcast. That episode was a special two-and-a-half hour tribute to Layne Flack and his poker life. It included appearances by numerous poker players and industry professionals. Halie Flack's tales from the family side of Layne's life complemented the pros' anecdotes about Layne's poker-world life. The tales frequently touched on Layne's most famed — and often outrageous — exploits.
Flack's "Back 2 Back" nickname started as recognition of his winning two WSOP bracelets in back-to-back years — 2002 and 2003. He collected six bracelets overall, with his other WSOP triumphs coming in 1999 and 2008. He won nearly $2.9 million in various WSOP events. His total lifetime winnings, including a WPT triumph in 2003, accounted for more than $5 million.
Early donations quickly near ten grand
"Beyond the six World Series of Poker bracelets, World Poker Tour title, and countless other accolades Layne earned over his career, he also earned a place in our hearts," the GoFundMe campaign proclaims. "He brought a smile to all our faces both at and away from the felt. He will be sorely missed as one of poker's great players and friendliest ambassadors." Despite his own personal difficulties, Flack's place in poker history as one of its sharpest, wittiest, and overall best-liked players will endure.
The GoFundMe campaign in Flack's honor has a posted goal of $80,000. The funder received donations totaling nearly $10,000 within 24 hours of the launch.
Early donators to the campaign included several well-known pros who were long-time friends of Flack's. Those donators included Phil Hellmuth, Eli Elezra, Laith "Lee" Salem, Chris MacFarland, Sorel Mizzi, Noah Boeken, and Brandon Shack-Harris.
