Mo Nuwwarah's unforgettable poker summer has continued in a remarkable way. A little over a week after losing more than $10,000 in a broad-daylight car break-in, the former live-poker reporter and two-time WSOP Circuit ring winner has claimed the first World Series of Poker gold bracelet of his career by winning the 2024 WSOP's Online Event #25, $1,000 PLO 6-Max Championship.
Nuwwarah made headlines a little over a week ago in one of the worst ways imaginable when he arrived in Las Vegas to play the Main Event and had his belongings stolen in a smash-and-grab daylight automobile break-in. Friend and fellow pro player Josh Reichard picked up Nuwwarah at Las Vegas's Harry Reid International Airport and the two went to the the popular-with-players Roma Deli co-owned by Todd Brunson and Max Pescatori.
Nuwwarah left his luggage in Reichard's car while they ate. A short while later, a restaurant employee soon told them the car had been broken into. The two rushed outside to find the car with a broken window and Nuwwarah's luggage and other items missing. Inside Nuwwarah's bag was over $10,000 in cash that was intended to be his Main Event buy-in.
Stolen cash is almost always unrecoverable in an insurance sense since it's seldom documented, meaning Nuwwarah's Vegas poker summer got off to an awful start. He was still able to turn it around at the tables, securing funding to play the Main and getting the stolen $10K back and then some, finishing in 359th for a neat $40,000 payout. But better was still to come.
In Friday's Online Event #25, $1,000 PLO 6-Max Championship, Nuwwarah climbed all the way to the bracelet win he'd watched others obtain hundreds of times in earlier years. Playing as 'residntmoose', Nebraska's Nuwwarah topped the event's 1,028-entry field (552 unique players, 476 total re-entries) to also earn a career-best $135,171.22 score. Early Saturday morning, he broke the news of his biggest win to date:
Nuwwarah sealed the win by sending Maximilian 'MaxValueNV' Schindler to the virtual rail as the runner-up for a $98,811.36 payout. Third-place money of $72,628.20 went to Krzysztof 'Ralph_Lauren' Magott.
The online PLO 6-max championship accumulated an $830,700 prize pool. The top 180 finishers made the money.
