Yves Perras completed an incredible final table comeback from one big blind to win the WSOP Circuit Playground Mini Main Event and a career-high $100,000.
As the final ten players merged at the final table with blinds of 150,000 / 300,000 (300,000), the Quebec native was the shortest remaining stack with just 575,000.
But as other contenders such as Albert Suetin and Julian Altieri Roman, who held the lead much of the day, former Playground WPT Prime winner Jikai Zhang, and start of final table chip leader Joseph Machaalani all fell, Perras was still there.
One double-up at a time
Through a series of bigger and bigger double-ups, Perras had rebuilt a workable stack, and then came the key hand that rocketed him back into contention.
Perras was back to just under ten million chips when he was dealt pocket kings at the perfect time. He got into a three-way all-in versus Roman’s ace-queen and Sebastien Proulx’s pocket jacks. Another king on the turn later and Perras was suddenly the chip leader.
That hand cut down the now former chip leader, Proulx, and Perras finished him off shortly after, trapping Proulx with aces versus Proulx’s jacks.
After Perras eliminated Jacob Parent in third place, he sat with an over 6-to-1 lead over his heads-up opponent, Scott Carragher, an experienced player coming off his own career-best score of $63,000 this past April.
Carragher would manage to battle back and then double to get the stacks close to even , but once again, when there was a massive pot to be won, Perras was on the right side of it, rivering a flush against Carragher to reclaim his huge lead. This time, it was one he would not relinquish.
With the win, the 67-year-old triples his Hendon Mob earnings resume, claims his first career WSOP Circuit ring to go with several much smaller wins here at Playground, and will be on his way to The Bahamas this December, winning a $5,000 package that goes to each WSOP Circuit winner for the rest of the year.
