As the prestigious WSOP Online series builds to a climax at GGPoker, one Canadian standout has a great shot at bagging a piece of poker immortality, as Santiago Plante of Montreal prepares to take on the final table of the Main Event this evening.
There’s the title of World Champion, a $30K package to WSOP Paradise and a WSOP gold bracelet on the line, as well as the life-changing figure of USD $3,900,707 set aside for the winner.
Plante already has over $5 million in winnings on GGPoker alone, but this would be by far his biggest-ever score.
Plante is no slouch in the live arena, either, with live career earnings to date of $2.3 million. With just 9 players remaining, he only needs to outlast one of them to secure a cash that will outstrip his best live score of $552K.
Final table action restarts at 2pm ET and will be streamed on GGPoker’s YouTube channel, with a 45-minute delay and Phil Hellmuth on commentary duties.
Heading into the final table, here’s how the field stacks up.
| Place | Player | Chips (BBs) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Benjamin Rolle (Austria) | 75,645,533 (94.6) |
| 2 | Anatoly Zlotnikov (Finland) | 63,798,556 (79.7) |
| 3 | Daniel Smiljkovic (Austria) | 46,075,943 (57.6) |
| 4 | Santiago Plante (Canada) | 45,166,830 (56.5) |
| 5 | Zengxiang Chen (China) | 30,911,256 (38.6) |
| 6 | Marco Augustin Perez (Argentina) | 27,218,630 (34) |
| 7 | Andreas Christoforou (Cyprus) | 27,204,300 (34) |
| 8 | Amit Ben Yacov (Israel) | 26,173,736 (32.7) |
| 9 | Felix Rabas (Austria) | 15,324,904 (19.2) |
Benjamin ‘bencb789’ Rolle, sitting on the chip lead, is looking like a strong bet to improve on his 8th-place finish in last year’s event.
But, as he pointed out on his X account, just making the final table in back-to-back years is "unreal."
Showcase tournament outstrips huge $25 million guarantee
An ambitious tournament guarantee for the Main Event has been comfortably surpassed, with 5,961 entries creating a prizepool of over $28 million (approx. CAD $38.7 million).
600 places have already been paid, with the final 9 set to divide up over $15 million between them.
The final money payouts look like this, with each player guaranteed to walk away with a minimum of $487K.
| Place | Prize (USD) |
|---|---|
| 1 | $3,900,707 (+ $30K WSOP Paradise Pass) |
| 2 | $3,006,762 |
| 3 | $2,318,640 |
| 4 | $1,788,026 |
| 5 | $1,378,866 |
| 6 | $1,063,360 |
| 7 | $820,072 |
| 8 | $632,473 |
