Brazilian soccer superstar Neymar is drawing a crowd at the Brazilian Series of Poker in São Paulo, where he finished the opening flight of the Winter Millions Poker Championship near the top of the leaderboard.
The Olympic gold medal winner bagged the second-highest chip total (238,500) of the 218 entries on Day 1A of the championship — the flagship event of the Brazilian Series of Poker Winter Millions series. He will join the survivors from the two opening flights on Tuesday's Day 2 for a chance at his first poker title.
Homefield advantage for Neymar
A deep run on Day 2 would not be the first time Neymar has tasted success in São Paulo. His sixth-place finish in a BSOP High Roller event in 2018 remains his highest score at $21,072. Neymar is regularly seen on the European Poker Tour and his $30K in career earnings include two cashes at the 2022 edition of EPT Monte Carlo.
