When Belgium’s #1 tournament player Thomas Boivin (pictured above) launched his ‘Beyond The Solver’ course at Octopi Poker earlier this year, there was good news and bad news.
The good news was that, taught alongside fellow pros Matt Hunt and Brian Hastings, Boivin’s three-week professional-level course straddled the line between GTO (game theory optimal) play and an exploitative approach.
Starting with an explanation of the GTO ‘solver-approved’ line in a particular scenario, the course then explored the mistakes many players make in these situations and precisely how you can profit from them.
As a result students gained a deeper understanding of GTO play, identified the leaks they’d see in others (and be able to avoid themselves), and left with advice they could immediately put into practice.
The bad news? It was a cohort-based course with a limited intake. Registration closed ahead of the WSOP and if you missed the deadline, you missed the opportunity.

Since the initial running of the course Boivin and Octopi Poker have gone back through the syllabus, revised the content and added new material, and relaunched it as a self-contained online course you can work through at your own pace.
